Record number of houses sold in Montreal

Housing sales in the Montreal have increased by 8% in August compared to the same month last year, reaching a new record, the Greater Montreal Real Estate Board announced Friday.

There were 3224 sales last month, compared to 2972 ​​a year earlier, the chamber said. This was the 41st consecutive month of growth in this regard.

Single-family home sales increased by 5% to 1777 from 1685 in August, while condominium sales increased by 12% to 1125 from 1004 a year ago.

Plex sales of two to five units totaled 318, up from 279 in August 2017.

The median price for single-family homes was $ 333,000 last month, up from $ 318,000 a year ago, while the median price for condominiums was $ 260,000, up from $ 250,000 last year. The median price of plex was up 10% to $ 515,000 from $ 470,000 a year ago.

The number of homes listed for sale decreased by 16% to 20,940, while new listings decreased by 2% to 4,785.
